4. Status:
Whether a candidate is hired as an Associate Professor (tenured) or an Associate Professor (tenure-track) is dependent upon the hiring committee's comprehensive assessment of his or her research output and educational achievements. Candidates will be notified at the time of the interview for which position they are being considered. During the tenure-track period, a full-time faculty member (tenure-track) may be required to participate in a faculty development program designated by Waseda University.

7. Main responsibilities (expected):
* Deliver classes, lectures, and seminars at undergraduate (including e-school) and postgraduate levels on topics related to the above subject areas, including specialist subjects and teacher training courses.
* Education and research activities outside of teaching.
* Administrative duties related to the operation of the Faculty of Human Sciences.

8. Terms of employment:
(1) When hired as an Associate Professor (tenured): No fixed term
* Retirement age: 70
(2) When hired as an Associate Professor (tenure-track): Three years
* At the end of the initial appointment, reappointment may be made for a period not exceeding two years. However, the total period of continuous employment at the University as a full-time faculty member (tenure-track) may not exceed seven years.
* Annual review, mid-term review, and final evaluation will be conducted by the Tenure Qualification Review Committee by reviewing documents and conducting interviews.
* As a general rule, the mid-term review is conducted in the second half of the third year of employment, and the final evaluation is conducted in the second half of the fifth year of employment. If the Review Committee concludes that the faculty member is eligible, the full-time faculty member (tenure-track) will continue to be employed as a full-time faculty member with no fixed term (tenured).
* If the full-time faculty member (tenure-track) fails the mid-term review or final evaluation, reappointment may be granted only once for a term of up to two years, to the extent that this reappointment does not exceed the total length of employment stipulated in the Waseda University regulations.
* A full-time faculty member (tenure-track) with outstanding research achievements may apply for an early mid-term review or final evaluation after the second half of their second year of appointment, subject to the approval of the Personnel Committee and the Faculty in advance. Full-time faculty members (tenure-track) may take the mid-term review and final evaluation only once each during their appointment. In addition, following a successful mid-term review, the full-time faculty member (tenure-track) may apply for an early final evaluation in the fiscal year following the mid-term review, subject to the approval of the Personnel Committee and the Faculty.
* If the full-time faculty member (tenure-track) is unsuccessful in their mid-term review or final evaluation and there is more than one year remaining on the appointment from the time the full-time faculty member receives the results, reappointment may be granted only once for a term of one year or less, to the extent that this reappointment does not exceed the total length of employment stipulated in the Waseda University regulations.
* Criteria for Annual Evaluation, Mid-term Review, and Final Evaluation:
The method of reappointment and evaluation as a full-time faculty member (tenure-track) shall be in accordance with the regulations of Waseda University and the internal regulations of the Faculty of Human Sciences. The screening criteria will be presented to those who pass the document screening.
* An exception to the maximum length of continuous employment rule noted above may be possible for a full-time faculty member (regardless of their qualifications at the time of hiring) who has been continuously employed by the University starting after April 1, 2013, with no break in employment of six months or more.

応募資格
Applicants must meet each of the following requirements:
1. Completed doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D.) or equivalent research experience and ability to supervise graduate students
2. Applied Linguistics and English education subject areas
3. Speaker of English as a first language or near-native proficiency
4. Experience working at a Japanese university (includes part-time teaching)
5. Experience with entrance examinations
6. Ability to teach English skills classes and conduct lectures in the applicant's area of specialization in both face-to-face and online settings
7. Sufficient Japanese language ability to carry out administrative duties
待遇
1. Working hours:
Regular working days and working hours (start and end times, rest periods, etc.) will be in accordance with Waseda University regulations. The discretionary labor system for professional work (8 hours of deemed work per day) will apply, and decisions on the means of performing work duties and time allocation for research will, due to the nature of research, be left to the discretion of the individual.

2. Salary, allowances, and commuting expenses:
As prescribed in the Waseda University regulations.

3. Holidays:
Holidays include most Saturdays, Sundays, year-end and New Year's holidays, national holidays, compensatory holidays when classes are held on some national holidays, and the anniversary of the University's founding excluding days on which the University has scheduled classes in advance.

4. Leave:
Leave will be granted as stipulated by the Labor Standards Act and other relevant laws and regulations, and days specifically designated by the University.

5. Social insurance:
Faculty members will be enrolled in the Employees' Pension Insurance, Health Insurance, Workers' Compensation Insurance, and Employment Insurance programs.

6. Severance and retirement benefits:
If hired as a tenured faculty member: Severance and retirement benefits will be paid in accordance with Waseda University regulations.
If hired as a tenure-track faculty member: Severance and retirement benefits will not be paid. However, if the individual concerned is subsequently hired as a tenured faculty member, the period of employment on which the retirement allowance is calculated shall be counted from their date of appointment as a tenure-track faculty member before the change of status.

Selection Process and Notification of Results

Document screening:
We will contact applicants who pass the document screening process by e-mail on or after June 7, 2023.

Interview selection:
Interviews are scheduled to be held between June 12, 2023, and July 4, 2023. Interviews will include a mock class (15-20 minutes), presentation of research (20 minutes), and a question-and-answer session (20 minutes).

After screening by the Personnel Committee, the Faculty will confirm the successful applicant (late July, 2023).
